Covington, LA (February 12, 2020) – A driver has been arrested in connection to a fatal crash that left an elderly woman dead last year. The accident occurred on November 25, 2019 around 7:00 p.m. near Fairway Drive in Covington.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO), Charles Juncker, 68, was driving his 2016 Hyundai Elantra south on West Frontage Road when he failed to follow a curve and drove into the opposite lane. He struck a 2014 Ford Explorer that was traveling north almost head-on.
Neither Juncker nor the driver of the Explorer were injured in the crash.
Juncker’s passenger, a 91-year-old woman, was severely injured in the accident. She was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The STPSO initially issued Juncker a citation for careless operation of a motor vehicle, but then arrested him on February 11 after his toxicology results showed impairment.
Juncker now faces charges of vehicular homicide and DWI. He is currently in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
