Baton Rouge, LA — A Baton Rouge driver faces DWI charges and reckless operation of a vehicle. The driver also was charged with driving with a suspended license and vehicular negligence after hitting a pedestrian on Saturday.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of Plank Road. A Baton Rouge police officer watched Nautica Gaines, 22, drive onto private property and strike an unnamed 29-year-old woman.

The officer confronted Gaines, who showed signs of impairment including slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.

Gaines later admitted that she drank two Hennessy margaritas before the accident occurred. Police officers booked her at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. She now faces a first-offense DWI among other charges.

First responders transported the women Gaines hit to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She sustained a possible leg fracture.
